CAME YAMAHA VICTORIOUS AND EXTEND TITLE LEAD AT CADWELL PARK

The CAME Yamaha team were celebrating after following the fourth round of the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship at Cadwell Park yesterday after Billy McConnell took his first victory of the season, whilst team-mate James Westmorland finished second to extend his title lead.

McConnell and Westmoreland both got off to a flying start, with ‘Skippy’ taking the lead from Ben Wilson into Park to take the lead before a determined ride saw him edge out an advantage which was still 5.525 seconds when he crossed the line despite his victory celebrations. Westmoreland was holding a strong second place and despite championship rival Sam Lowes making a late challenge on the closing lap he defended hard to give the CAME Yamaha team their first one-two finish of the season.

James said: “It was a good day for the CAME Yamaha team; I got a good start and I wanted to challenge Billy for the win but on the first lap Ben Wilson crashed in front of me and it lost some of my momentum which gave Billy a bit of a gap. I was pushing as hard as I could as the tyre spun on the rim which made it difficult to do the times that I would have needed to in order to catch Billy and I had a few big moments. I knew Sam was behind me so I rode defensively in the last laps as I certainly didn’t want to be third and held it on the final lap to give CAME Yamaha their first one-two finish. It is all credit to the team as they worked so hard all weekend and to have scored those extra points I can go into the break feeling confident for Mallory Park.”

Billy said: “I felt quite chocked up after that race as I had been desperate to win since the start of the season and until Cadwell Park it just hadn’t happened. I need to thank the CAME Yamaha team for believing in me and giving me the confidence to go out there and get the job done at the weekend. I am relieved to have got that win now and claw some of those points back on the others so now I can’t wait until my home round at Mallory Park as I feel we can keep the momentum going. I am on a high following the win and feel on top of the world right now.”

Team Manager Steve Rodgers said: “It was a great weekend for the CAME Yamaha team and everyone’s hard efforts definitely paid off with our first one-two finish. For Billy it was great to see him back on the top step of the podium and that has pushed him up the standings now. For Westy another consistent ride and another podium means he has taken the championship lead which is what he need to do at his home round. The whole CAME Yamaha team are really buzzing now so we can look forward to Mallory Park and hopefully a repeat performance. We also want to thank CAME and of our sponsors, plus K-Tech as they have really helped us move forward.”
